Genre Description
Grunge-Gaze:
A fusion of grunge’s raw energy and shoegaze’s dreamy textures. Swedey’s sound is riff-based, emotionally resonant, and sonically immersive—drawing influence from T. Rex, The Stooges, Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Nirvana, and more.
OUR STORY
Swedey (pronounced like Sweetie) is a four-piece rock band from the Pacific Northwest blending the grit of grunge with the shimmer of shoegaze into what they call "Grunge-Gaze"—a riff-driven, emotionally charged sound that’s as heavy as it is hypnotic. Formed by longtime friends and collaborators, Swedey is a project born from friendship, healing, and a shared love of sound. Their music is raw, melodic, and deeply human, anchored by lived experience and a passion for connection.
Meet The Band
Zach Whiton – Guitar, Lead Vocals
Zach Whiton is the main creative engine behind Swedey, blending the grit of grunge with the shimmer of shoegaze into what the band calls “Grunge-Gaze.” A founding member of the early 2010s band 1776, Zach cut his teeth touring, recording, and releasing music on The Dandy Warhols’ Beat the World Records label. After years of personal struggle and growth, including a hard-won recovery, he’s returned to music with a deeper sense of purpose. Now 33, Zach balances his life as a working-class artist while managing a cannabis farm in Longview, WA, but his true calling is making music that matters. Swedey is his outlet, his therapy, and his second act.
Kevin Heiderich – Bass, Vocals
Kevin Heiderich is the steady hand and a beating heart behind Swedey. A self-taught bassist who first picked up the instrument in 1994, Kevin’s musical journey has been anything but linear. After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1996 to 2006, he became a father of three and a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating House of Cannabis, a chain of four retail cannabis stores across Washington State. Offstage, Kevin is Swedey’s organizer, mentor, and emotional anchor. With a background in band management (The Fun Police), tour booking (Logan Lynn), and community promotion, he brings a rare mix of business acumen and artistic passion to the project.
Cody “The Roadie” Campbell – Guitar
Once the roadie for 1776, Cody Campbell is now a full-fledged guitarist in Swedey. A lifelong bedroom player, Cody has been quietly honing his craft since childhood. Now 33, he’s emerging from a personal path of recovery with a guitar in hand and a renewed sense of purpose.
Cody’s playing style is rooted in rhythm, with moments of lead that complement frontman Zach Whiton’s harmonized guitar work. Offstage, Cody is the band’s resident comic genius—known for his original skits like singing as a pro-AI version of Neil Young or reimagining Blue Velvet with Kermit the Frog. Though shy by nature, Cody made his live debut at Swedey’s first show and crossed a major threshold, his first show ever, and the first of many.
Chuck Hendrickson – Drums
Chuck Hendrickson is the rhythmic backbone of Swedey, bringing a powerful, expressive drumming style that’s as tight as it is loud. A lifelong musician with over three decades behind the kit, Chuck plays with precision and passion.
He’s also a community advocate, father of three, and nonprofit leader. Chuck runs an outreach center supporting individuals in recovery, promotes cannabis as a harm-reduction tool, and writes grants to help others fund their missions. Compassionate, dedicated, and deeply human, Chuck brings a sense of purpose and perspective to Swedey that goes far beyond the music.
